What if one simple idea could change your entire future?
This might sound impossible at first, fantastical even. After all, it's not like you can just change your life with the flip of a switch. But it’s the reality that I know many entrepreneurs, people such as Steve Jobs and Elon Musk, have already experienced in their lives. Something that started as just a small thought in a person's head spiraled into something so much greater than they ever imagined.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, the official definition for entrepreneurship is “skill in starting new businesses, especially when this involves seeing new opportunities”. Personally, I see this as one of the main reasons why I find entrepreneurship so fascinating. It gives rise to endless possibilities for anyone with enough courage to turn a concept into something real.
But having an idea is only the start.
An entrepreneur must understand how that idea can become something others think is worth following. This includes making plans, taking risks, deciding important choices, and learning from mistakes. Entrepreneurship is not a path that goes straight to the top, it's a rough journey that requires money, time, and a whole bunch of effort.
Basically, entrepreneurship is a huge risk. You may spend tons of time and money into your business only for it to end up failing. But that's something I find admirable. The fact that a person is willing to take the leap of faith into something that may not succeed.
In the past, I've always thought that entrepreneurship was something only certain people could do. I believed it was something only achieved by an extremely talented, creative, and business savvy person. However, I’ve come to the realization that my assumptions were, in fact, false. You don't need to be super rich or famous in order to get started. Entrepreneurship is about remaining committed to your idea and doing whatever you can in order for it to succeed.
Something also important to me is the fact that entrepreneurship provides people a chance to be creative. It's an outlet for individuals to express their concerns, bring innovation, and adapt to change. And as a person who considers herself to be pretty creative, that's really important. Entrepreneurship gives the opportunity to not just be creative, but to give rise to something real and truly possible.
Entrepreneurship is also a very valuable way to learn important life lessons. For instance, it shows that failure isn't always a dead end. Instead it's simply something to learn and grow from. It also teaches the importance of developing relationships with others. Building connections leads to collaboration on projects, guidance, sharing of knowledge, greater access to resources, and so much more! There's so many benefits to forming meaningful relationships that to me, it completely overweights the downsides.
In the end, entrepreneurship doesn't just mean starting a business. It is about pursuing what makes a person true to themself and following through with it. It means taking the idea in your head and seeing where that path leads.
Sometimes, one idea can change your entire future and the only way to find out is to take the first uncertain step.
